Women United Career Exploration + Kit Pack Volunteers

Description

Women United (WU) is a powerful network of women leaders across 165 communities and six countries. United Way of the National Capital Area’s WU leaders utilize their power to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families in our region and beyond.

WU are grounded in their commitment to serving the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population. ALICE represents the nearly 500,000 households that earn more than the Federal Poverty Level but less than the basic cost of living for the county/state in which they live. This translates to an estimated 1.3 million adults and children living in the region who cannot meet the minimum cost of household basics.

In celebration of Women’s History Month in March, United Way NCA’s WU is hosting 50 high school students for a career discussion and volunteer opportunity. WU and community members to include experiences along the path to their chosen career. Following the panel and small group discussions, volunteers and students will work together to pack menstrual hygiene kits to donated to their respective schools. The event will conclude with lunch and further conversations between all partnerships.

This event represents a milestone in United Way NCA’s Women United development of a curriculum for high school students to help support them as they begin thinking how they will start on their own path to success.
